"My Dream 18" - Dream Golf Magazine

"My Dream 18" - Dream Golf Magazine

So the story goes: I have ‘dreamed’ of having a Dream Golf Magazine cover photo for 6 years. Not for the clout, but because Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and Sand Valley mean so much to my journey.

The year was 2002. I went on a pilgrimage of sorts to Bandon Dunes for my first time. I had never heard of it when I departed my Uncle Don’s custom woodworking shop in Gresham, OR. I went to school in PDX, and worked for him for many years. He did some of the custom woodworking in the Bandon Lodge and some other facilities on property.

On this particular trip, we hauled a bunch of cabinets I helped build down to Bandon to install in the maintenance shop. For all I know, they still hang on the walls. And hopefully level lol. After the job, played Pacific Dunes for my first Bandon round. I had only just started playing golf. It was a sideways, pounding, drenching squall. I shot 123 - my highest 18-hole score to date. It took until 2023 before I decided I liked Pac Dunes.

I have since visited Bandon 10 times for many purposes - I captured the 2020 US Amateur for the USGA, shot Opening Day at Sheep Ranch, helped produce and shoot a national Arccos spot, attended the 25th Anniversary event in 2024, and so on. Bandon played a massive role in kickstarting my full-time journey of making golf art.

My first visit to SV was in ‘20 with my wife on our first golf trip together. A lifer memory. I’ve now been 4 times for various shoots and my 40th bday.

I have now captured stories at the 3 new Dream Golf developments - Rodeo Dunes (Colorado), Wild Spring Dunes (E. Texas) & Old Shores (Florida), and was completely surprised and beyond thrilled to see a photo of the planting of the flag at Wild Spring on one of the Vol. 6 covers. I also contributed several images for Vol. 6 stories, as well as the “My Dream 18” feature - a collection of photos and stories of my favorite 1-18 Dream Golf holes.

A watershed moment 23 years in the making. Dream massive dreams. The reality of those dreams may be far more radical than you could imagine. Thank you to the entire DG family for trusting me all these years to share so many incredible stories.
